Kapa Haka GroupNau mai, haere mai. Ko te kaupapa o tenei korero, he tino tumeke te roopu Kapa Haka o te Ngakau Tapu o Hehu. The Sacred Heart Kapa Haka group plays an important role in College life, sharing Maori culture and leading the Powhiri on special occasions. The group performs a variety of items including poi, waiata-a-ringa and haka. The Kapa Haka encourages Maori student participation and also welcomes students of other ethnic backgrounds. Kapa Haka fosters a whanau concept to care and support each other, to help develop confidence and self esteem within the students through song and dance.
Samoan Cultural GroupTalofa lava i le paia ma le mamalu o le aofia Traditional Samoan dancing for girls demands that you are graceful in your actions while maintaining a smile at all times. Our talented group of Samoan girls take pride in their talents to represent both the College and their culture. Discipline and respect are important within the group. Tokelauan Cultural GroupMalo ni This group is led by Year 13 leaders who are of Tokelauan descent. Traditional Tokelauan fateles are performed by the students, who enjoy taking pride in representing both their culture and their school. Members are encouraged to kata, koli and kau (smile, go down and join in the singing) but most importantly they are encouraged to enjoy themselves and have fun. The Tokelauan Cultural Group perform in the Wellington Secondary Schools' Catholic Polynesian Festival. At the end of the performance the girls come off the stage with a feeling of satisfaction, proud of what they have accomplished on the night and knowing that their hard work at practices has been worth it.
