School Concert

The school community was treated  to a wonderful display of dancing and singing with a fund raising concert featuring the Polynesian Culture Club, the Prima Voce Choir,  the Indian Culture Club, and the award winning Stage Challenge Team. Held at the Lower Hutt Horticulture Hall, the event was hugely successful and the audience was able to view for the first time, the architects visual presentation of our proposed new Performing Arts Centre.

 Feast Day

Sacred Heart celebrated Feast Day this year with the theme - `Hearts for Biodiversity Saving Our Earth' .
Form Classes, Deans, Senior Management and Support Staff were all invited to decorate and create a 'heart for the environment' panel which was sewn together to make a stunning altar cloth for the Mass. Archbishop John Dew presided over the Mass at the Town Hall which was then followed by normal Feast Day activities  -  a shared lunch and afternoon concert.

  Term 2 Final Assembly

A full school assembly was held at the end of the second term to recognise a number of achievements for the school and students. Students were acknowledged for their sporting, cultural and educational achievements, as well as peer support. Ms Prendergast presented the school with two water colour paintings of the Basilica of Fourivère at Lyon, made possible by a generous donation from Liam and Bruce Wright, brothers of Sister Marie Gabrielle Wright. Artist Shirley Vogtherr was commissioned to do the paintings using  photos Ms Prendergast took on the 2006 Sacrè Coeur trip to France. Ex staff member, Sister Jo Kane who attended the assembly, spoke about the significance of the art work to the school, which will be hung in Fourivère House.

 Sacred Heart College Earth Hour

Sacred Heart College marked its own  Earth Hour on 26 March by encouraging staff and pupils to switch off any lights and appliances during Spell 4 in a bid to raise awareness of Climate Change issues. Year 12 and 13 Sustainable Societies and Futures classes promoted the cause further by organising a sausage sizzle, bake sale and competitions and making a wonderful Earth Hour Lantern for all to sign. The money raised is to sponsor and 'adopt' a Hector's Dolphin through the World Wild Life Fund who were behind the running of Earth Hour this year. We look forward to hearing news of our very own dolphin.
