Sacred Heart College is fortunate to have a highly experienced full time Guidance Counsellor, Mrs Jenny Ellis.

There are always times in a students life when things don't work out they way they want them to. In these times of disappointment, worry, anger, confusion or grief, it helps to talk to someone else. 

Possible reasons to see Mrs Ellis:

• Wanting help on subjects for the following year
• Having trouble getting on with some people at school
• Concern about the cost of university
• Help on how to study
• Problems getting along with family
• A death in the family
• Parents separating
• Health issues
• Anger management problems
• Alcohol or drug problems
• Boyfriend/ girlfriend problems
• Feeling lonely
• School work becoming overwhelming
• Wanting to change your behaviour at school for the better

The role of a Guidance Counsellor is to listen without judging or criticising, to help find out the cause of problems and to help people cope with the situation they are in.

Confidentiality

All conversations with Mrs Ellis are completely confidential. Trust is important.

The only time that a conversation may not be able to be kept private is if there is clear risk of self harm or harm to others.

Appointments

There are two ways of making appointments:

1. There are forms outside the Guidance Counsellor office that students can complete - Mrs Ellis will use this form to make contact and set up an appointment time.
2. Students can pop in before school, during interval or lunch break, or between classes, to make an appointment.
