As a highly sought after pianist, accompanist, repetiteur, organist, vocal and choral musician, Fiona brings a wealth of experience to her music making across many genres, performing early music to music theatre and everything in between.
Fiona studied piano performance at the Wellington Polytechnic and at Victoria University, where she received numerous awards. In 1993 she was the first international student to complete a Post Graduate Diploma in Accompaniment at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and in 1999/2000 she studied as a repetiteur at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London.
In 1997 Fiona was a repetiteur in training at Opera Australia, where she worked on numerous productions until 2014, including several world premieres and toured with Oz Opera. She has also been repetiteur for the NZ International Arts Festival, NBR New Zealand Opera and Boutique Opera in NZ, and the Pacific Opera studio in Sydney.
As well as having an international career, prizes for accompaniment and other professional awards, Fiona has a passion for the voice, obtaining an AmusA (AMEB) in singing. Since 2005 she has taught voice, teaching at Sydney Grammar School, SCEGGS and Ascham in Sydney, and at Chilton St James School and Sacred Heart College in Lower Hutt.
Fiona has a long association with Choral music and was the Assistant Musical Director of the Orpheus Choir and the Director of the Chilton Choral Centre. Fiona has been a member of Tower Voices NZ the Chapman Tripp Opera chorus, Nota Bene Choir, the Sydney Chamber Choir and the Sydneian Bach choir for 13 years, of which she was accompanist, organist and soprano soloist for its Bach Cantata project, 2005-2013. She currently sings with Baroque Voices.
In the world of Music Theatre, Fiona has been involved in many productions in Sydney and Wellington, including Mamma Mia, The Lion King, The Producers and The Jersey Boys, where she played, sang and danced on stage.
She has been the Musical Director on several collaborations including Tenor Australis in Sydney, Cabaret shows with Jason Henderson’s “I think you’ll like this!” in Wellington and Dunedin, and Black Dog Relief – A Cabaret for Robbie Tripe with Gareth Farr in Wellington.
Fiona has recorded for radio, for the ABC and 2MBSFM in Sydney and for Radio NZ concert. If that wasn’t enough to keep her busy she also completed a Masters in Counselling and Applied Psychotherapy in Sydney in 2014.
