Drama - Extracurricular

Sacred Heart College provides a raft of Drama opportunities for students, including the annual Shakespeare Festival, Year 9 Performance Day, Ensemble presentations, Major Productions and Stage Challenge.

Devising workshops, involvement in professional theatre productions and trips to Toi Whakaari are highlights for the Senior Drama classes and will continue to be offered in future for their valuable connection to the pursuit of vocational opportunities in Drama beyond Secondary School.

Opportunities for students to get involved are:

  • Theatresports
  • Nga Manu Korero and Kapa Haka
  • Drama performances in support of liturgies, feast day and flagship college events
  • A student-written Major Production is planned for 2016
  • SHC will host the Comedy Festival Student Workshops
  • The Pasifika Fiafia will continue in 2016
  • At present students are preparing for the 2016 O’Shea Shield Drama Competition, Poly Festival and Kapa Haka

The strong desire of students to engage in these extracurricular Drama activities with staff and student directed performances in and out of the classroom, points to a real and empowering interest in the Performing Arts which we endeavour to provide for.

The ‘buy in’, energy and self-motivation of students across these events present further evidence of the strong Drama culture within Sacred Heart College.
