Nick George

Nick began playing drums at age ten and spent his early teens playing a mixture of grunge and classic rock covers with his neighbourhood friends before branching out into jazz, percussion and big band music in high school - where he was part of a national champion big band and jazz combo.

In his final year of high school, Nick toured California with his jazz group - starting in San Francisco, performing at the prestigious Monterey Jazz Festival, and finishing in Los Angeles where he recorded film music at at Disneyland studios.

The following year, Nick received the Eastbourne Young Achievers Scholarship and attended Massey University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Music - playing in the university big band and performing regularly with The Ed Zuccollo Trio and Supernova throughout.

Nick has since taught drums to hundreds of students around Wellington, while continuing to perform and record in a handful of jazz, folk and rock bands. He produced and recorded two Mercury Crowe albums with three of his songs gaining nationwide radio play and has toured New Zealand, Australia and Asia with Mercury Crowe, EZT, Eva Prowse, Nikita Tu-Bryant, Mel Parsons and Gerry Paul. He currently plays in, and manages Miles Calder & The Rumours whose song 'The Avenue' is a finalist in the International Songwriting Competition and continues to record and perform widely as a session musician.
