Kapa Haka is a unique way to explore and embrace who you are, or simply, it is a group which enables you to express your love for Te Ao Maori. Kapa Haka provides opportunities to help you step out of your comfort zone and teaches you to be humble. Our group, Te Huatai Katorika are all about whānaungatanga (togetherness & family). We strive to create a family bond to ensure a safe space for us to ground ourselves and grow.
We partner up with our brother schools, St Bernard's and St Patrick's Silverstream, to form our Kapa Haka group, Te Huatai Katorika. We meet with our brother schools and tutors every Wednesdays from 5pm-7pm at different venues between the three Kura.
This year we have many exciting events to train for, including Hutt Fest and Te Awakairangi Secondary Regional Kapa Haka Competition where we will compete against other Kura for a shot to go to Nationals.
We have a fantastic group of leaders and two remarkable Kaiako who will help pave the way with their many years of haka.
The arms of Kapa Haka are wide open to all students of any ethnicity, knowledge and skill level. If you are interested in becoming part of our whānau, please register using the school website.
