Barbershop is a style of acapella close harmony or unaccompanied vocal music. We have two types of Barbershop singing, one of them is called a Barbershop quartet which consists of four people, and the other is called a chorus consisting of as many people as you’d like. Barbershop is produced by four parts which are Tenor (highest voice), Lead (Primary voice), Baritone (Between Tenor & Bass), and Bass (Lowest Voice). We rehearse on a Thursday lunchtime and some other times when necessary. Our barbershop groups (Quartet & Chorus) are entered into the Barbershop Regionals and Nationals under the Young Singers in Harmony organisation along with some other smaller competitions around Wellington. Joining the Barbershop family at SHC could be a great way to build up your confidence not just as a singer and a performer but also your own personal confidence. You can also surround yourself with others who are interested in singing just like you, which leads to new friendships and strong bonds.
