The Sport Academy - Rangatahi Sport for Life programme has been established to support students who would like sport to be an important part of their life, whether it be in competing, coaching or working in the sporting industry. The programme is designed to support students through their sport journey over their time at Sacred Heart College.

The programme is open to year 9 students only.

The aim is to build the confidence of students by participating in many different sports experiences; they will develop:

• knowledge of many sporting disciplines
• self-confidence and a greater willingness to take risks
• growth in interpersonal skills and communications
• perseverance and resilience
• a connection between academic and sport achievement
• the ability to be grounded and balanced young sports women

At Sacred Heart College we are committed to addressing the inequities for women and girls in sport by offering opportunities for our students to participate by providing many sporting options.

The programme intake is 30 Year 9 students each year. The sport department will run the sessions with the help of the PE department and outside clubs and facilitators.

Students will have Sport Academy sessions twice a term on a Monday morning from 9am to 1pm (subject to change if an outside venue or club is not available on a Monday). The focus will be on widening the students sporting experiences to help them achieve their goals, aspirations and develop skills.

Entry to the programme:

• Numbers: The programme is limited to 30 students
• Days: Twice a term on Mondays
• Time: 9am - 1pm
• Fee: $40 - The first 30 year 9 students to register AND pay the $40 fee will be accepted to the programme for 2025
• Registrations open: Monday 3 February at 10am (this will close when the first 30 students have registered AND paid). Please note that all year 9 students will receive an email on Thursday 30 January inviting students to apply and a reminder will also be posted on our social media. Acceptance Requirements:

• Each student in the programme will be required to sign a contract. Failure to follow the contract conditions will result in expulsion from the programme.
• Inclusion in the programme is not limited to sporting talent. There must be agreement from students that they uphold standards of academic effort and focus in all subjects.
• Full attendance at school is expected. Academy students are required to have an exemplary pastoral and behavioural record.

NOTE: Appropriate school behaviour and attendance standards are a requirement for a student to participate in extra-curricular activities.
