Update on Mask Wearing at Sacred Heart College

8 July 2022

Tēnā koutou katoa

Thank you to all staff, students, parents and caregivers for your perseverance and support in ensuring that we are doing our part in keeping our community safe by following all the MOH guidelines around hygiene, ventilation and mask wearing.

In line with the Ministry of Health guidelines the wearing of face masks is currently optional for all staff and students.

We surveyed our staff and found that a number of them are keen to see students wearing masks in their classes, and we wish to respect and fully support this.

From term 3 students must wear masks in the following places:

  • School office
  • All classes that have a relieving teacher
  • Subject teachers who have requested students wear masks in their classes
  • Indoor school wide events ie assemblies, concerts, Mass etc

We expect that students will show staff and their peers the importance of manaakitanga and respect that masks must be worn while in designated spaces and with specific staff unless a student has a mask exemption. There will be masks given out to students who need them.

Your student’s subject teacher will notify students if their classroom will be a masked classroom before the start of Term 3.

Please note that in the event of increased COVID-19 cases at Sacred Heart College we will return to compulsory mask wearing again.

For your information approximately 56% of our staff, and over 300 of our students have contracted COVID-19. A reminder that we are still under the ORANGE setting of the Covid Protection Framework which recommends that face masks are worn.

Any visitor to the College including parents and caregivers will need to wear a face mask when on-site.

Thank you for your cooperation and keeping the faith and doing the MAHI.
