Kapa Haka

Nau mai, haere mai. Ko te kaupapa o tenei korero, he tino tumeke te roopu Kapa Haka o te Ngakau Tapu o Hehu.

The Kapa Haka group consists of students from Sacred Heart College Lower Hutt.  All students in the school are invited to register to become a member of the group at the beginning of the year. They learn action songs, poi, waiata and haka.

The Year 13 students are the leaders.  In Term 1 and Term 2 the group meet together with St Bernard's College regularly for Noho Marae and attend compulsory weekend practices from Friday night to Sunday morning.

These noho are in preparation for the Secondary school Kapa Haka competition and also the Hutt Festival.  We learn about manaakitanga, tautoko and aroha tetahi ki tetahi.

The group receives invitations to perform at important occasions throughout the Wellington and Hutt Valley, and we also perform at school events.

It is a lot of fun and can also be very serious.  Mrs Frost and Miss Brown are the teachers who look after the group and Mrs Frost is also one of the tutors.
