The Polynesian Cultural group encourages our Pacific students to take pride in their culture and is open to all students at Sacred Heart College. The talented Year 13 students lead the group by example and aim to build understanding of Pacific identity, culture and customs through song and dance. Rehearsals take place during lunchtimes and after school, as well as the school holidays.
The core values of the Polynesian Cultural group include:
- Importance of Identity (language and culture)
- Importance of Family, community and group
- Respect for our elders and leaders
- Relationships based on Trust
- Spirituality
- Discipline
The group plays an important role in college life, sharing the Pacific culture and performing for special occasions including the Extravaganza, Feast Day, assemblies, Pacific Language Weeks, and the annual Hutt Fest which is a local Poly festival showcasing Pacific talent from schools around the Hutt Valley region.
The senior students can earn Dance credits in NCEA.
