Young Enterprise Team

Our Young Enterprise Scheme team, United Publicaitons, comprised of Year 12 students Jasmin Kaur (CEO), Zara Joe (Operations), Ysabelle Balao (Finance), Paris Nguyen (Sales), and Mckayla Ruaburo (Marketing), have achieved an incredible amount this year. They created a language starter book for young immigrants, introducing Te Reo Māori and NZ Sign Language and teaching everyday English words that children are most likely to come across. A photo of an item and the English word for it is provided, and there is a space for the learner to write the item in their own native language, connecting English to their roots. This is the main focus of the book, with a few pages on Te Reo and NZSL at the beginning, and English retention activities at the back.

At the recent Wellington Regional YES Awards United Publications were finalists for three awards, Team of the Year, CEO of the Year, and the One to Watch (which they won).

This year, they have managed the following:

  • Top in the wider Wellington Region across all challenges (score of 96.25/100)
  • Top in the Wellington Region for their pitch
  • Runner-up in the NZ AID Programme Award for solving a development problem - second in the country!
  • Won the 'One to Watch' regional award for the company most expected to have promising results after the YES year
  • Selected to pitch at the 'Slush'd' event in Wellington
  • Met with the Ministry of Ethnic Communities at The Beehive
  • Chosen to MC for an event held by the Upper Hutt Multi-Cultural Council.

They recently attended the YES Awards Evening, where these photos were taken.

Congratulations. Your mahi is inspiring and you all have bright futures ahead.
