Music Overview

The Music curriculum is offered as a part of the Year 9 technology rotation, and as a full year option at Years 11, 12 and 13. At Year 10 we offer a Performing Arts course which combines elements of Music, Drama, and backstage skills, allowing students to explore Music in a range of exciting contexts. More information on Music as a subject can be found in our course information which can be accessed via this link to the Performing Arts Curriculum

A special feature of being involved with curriculum Music at Sacred Heart College is that Year 11 - 13 students participate in our Performing Arts Assessments Evenings. Held in Term 3, these are fantastic events where students have the chance to develop and demonstrate their performance skills through performing their work to whānau and friends in a series of evening concerts. They are a highlight of our Performing Arts calendar.

At Sacred Heart College students can also participate in many extracurricular musical activities. Each group has their own performances and competitions, however, all the groups come together in Term 3 for a Performing Arts Roadshow which travels to contributing primary schools and intermediates in the local area. The students look forward to this event each year as many have been on the receiving end of these concerts whilst at their previous school. Information on the extracurricular groups offered at Sacred Heart College can be found here

Students at our college also have the opportunity to enrol in itinerant and private music lessons. Students in these lessons get the chance to share their musical development with whānau and friends at our Itinerant Music Concerts which are held in the evening in Terms 2, 3 and 4. More information about the itinerant and private music lessons can be found here
